Susan Loper Murder Suspect, Terrance Deeing Black Arrested after Failed Grand Canyon Suicide Jump -24th Apr 2011

A Texas man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend was arrested after he leapt into the Grand Canyon, but only fell 25 feet.

Terrance Deering Black, 48, of Dallas, made the jump after police issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with the death of his fitness instructor ex-girlfriend Susan Loper, 40.

When he was approached at the National Park he dived over the edge, but he did not fall far. He was arrested and taken by helicopter to hospital for treatment.

Park officials say once he's released from the hospital, he will be taken into custody.

On Friday, police issued a capital murder arrest warrant for Black for the death of Mrs Loper.

Her body had been found in woods on Wednesday, a day after she went missing from the country club where she worked in Plano, Texas.

Officers said there were signs of a struggle in the Gleneagles Country Club fitness room and that Mrs Loper's purse and mobile phone were left at the club.

Her car was missing from the car park but was found on Wednesday, shortly before the discovery of her body.

Police have not yet said how Loper died. Read More
