At Least Five Killed In Minsk Metro Blast - 11th Apr 2011

At least five people have been killed and dozens injured in an explosion on the underground metro system in the Belarusian capital, according to reports.

The blast happened at the Oktyabrskaya metro station near Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko's office in Minsk.

There has been no confirmation of what caused the explosion.

A witness told Reuters he saw people being carried out of the station on stretchers.

Another said a train was coming into the station when the blast occurred on the platform.

"The doors (of the train) opened and then there was an explosion," the witness said.

"I saw people lying on the floor without moving. There was a lot of blood." Source
