Capitalism is great: Working mothers spend just over an HOUR a day with their children

Working mothers spend just over an hour a day day with their children, a study has revealed.

The average figures include weekends - so many manage no more than a few minutes each day with their youngsters during the week.

Despite the figures, experts said working parents juggling a career with their household duties should focus on quality of time with their children rather than quantity.

British mothers manage just one hour and 21 minutes a day with their children - making them some of the busiest in Europe. In contrast, Irish working mums manage almost twice as much.

Hard-working BBC newsreader and mother-of-three Sophie Raworth has said she dedicates 15 minutes of her parenting time to each of her children following the U.S. Fast parenting scheme.

She explored the programme, which is designed to improve behaviour, in a recent BBC Two documentary.

Although working mothers struggle to squeeze in their household duties around their jobs, stay-at-home mums manage two hours and 35 minutes with their children each day. (read more)
